A4000

Pic Pic The first of these pictures contains a mock-up image on the screen; the second is genuine. In the mock-up, the machine is shown running RISC OS 3.5; a real A4000 would only have been able to run RISC OS 3.1!

Phoebe Risc PC 2

Pic Pic Pic
The Phoebe Risc PC 2 had previously been called the Phoebe 2100, and before that was known just as the Risc PC II

Portables and prototype portables

Pic A4
The A4 was the only laptop computer that Acorn ever produced commercially; it was effectively an A5000 in a notebook case, and had a 640×480-pixel screen which was capable of displaying only 15 shades of grey. The A4's name was derived from the fact that its footprint was the same as an A4 page
Pic Pocket Book
The Pocket Book series were the only Acorn-badged computers that were not based on Acorn technology: the Pocket Book was a customised version of the Psion Series 3
Pic Pocket Book II
The Pocket Book II was a customised version of the Psion Series 3a
Pic Pocket Book III
The Pocket Book III was a customised version of the Psion Series 3c, and was produced by Xemplar Education rather than by Acorn
Pic NewsPAD (prototype)
The NewsPAD was a keyboardless tablet computer with a touch-sensitive screen, designed as a kind of electronic newspaper (see RISC User 9:10 for a major article about it by its designer)
Pic Stork (prototype)
The Stork was a new-generation laptop which would have succeeded the A4 had it ever entered production
